Honesty instead of gloss.
We compared Traduo and cloud market leader DeepL using four independent measurement methods on two public test sets.¹
Parity
Neither system dominates: which one is narrowly ahead in a given comparison depends on the choice of test set and metric. Traduo delivers market-leader quality, entirely in-house.
Fluent ≠ correct
Linguistic fluency proves nothing about quality: a sentence can sound flawless and still tip the meaning. Only multiple measurement methods separate «worded differently» from «translated wrongly» – hence four metric families instead of one glossy number.

of text passages contain at least one critical content error – in both systems, flawlessly worded and therefore hard to spot. No vendor communicates this number; we publish it. That is why professional review remains part of the workflow: Traduo makes critical passages visible instead of hiding them in the average.
1 correction to the world standard
So thorough that we found an error in the public FLORES reference data set: our automatic number check spotted a year with one zero too many. We submitted the correction – the maintainers, the Open Language Data Initiative, adopted it on 25 July 2026. The entire measurement setup is reproducible; we re-measure every new model and update under identical conditions.

Why not simply …?
… DeepL or another cloud service?
We measured it: quality is on par.¹ The difference lies elsewhere – with a cloud service, documents leave your organisation, and for procedural documents containing personal data that is, depending on the legal basis, not permissible – or simply not sensible given the technical isolation of your systems and digital processes. Traduo brings the same quality to where the data is allowed to stay: to you.
… a Swiss cloud provider?
Hosting in Switzerland is not hosting with you. Even with a Swiss provider, a third party processes your documents on someone else’s infrastructure – with a contract instead of control. Traduo runs on systems under your own authority, on request without any internet access.
… an international enterprise solution?
On-premise offerings from large vendors are built for corporate rollouts – heavyweight in implementation, licensing and operation. Traduo is built for Swiss administrations: official languages directly, Swiss orthography, government terminology, sized for one agency rather than a corporation. And optimised for your data and processes – up to possible post-training of the model specific to your organisation, which stays entirely with you.
… run an open model yourself?
Feasible – any IT department can install an open model today. What is missing then is everything else: the review and correction view, binding glossaries, text recognition with layout preservation, and the measurement method that proves what the system can really do – and with which it was highly optimised. That system is exactly what Traduo is.

- We measured every single language in the test set – more than 18,000 translations – instead of relying on vendor claims.
- Relevant to migration: Turkish (reference language, tested in depth) as well as Pashto, Somali and Tigrinya – the latter usable with increased review depth. Including languages that common cloud services do not offer at all.
- Where quality only suffices as a comprehension aid, we say so openly.
- Traduo translates directly into German, French or Italian – without a detour via English, with Swiss orthography and your binding in-house terminology.

07 — The method
Sovereignty also means answering the quality question yourself.
Instead of taking the vendor’s word. Behind Traduo stands its own measurement method and software – reproducible (every run repeatable identically), transparent (metrics, test data and results disclosed), data-frugal (runs on real files without disclosing content), reusable (new models, updates, new languages – including third-party systems).
This is how we verify every new model generation before it reaches you. The benchmark is also available as a standalone service: on request, we measure your existing translation system or an offer you are currently evaluating.
